Over the weekend I attended the green living show.  While at the show I attended the Green Living Health Forum: Eco toxins and our health.  It was the kick off so to say of the Docs Talk blog.  The blog has been launched on the David Suzuki Foundation website.  It is a monthly blog which features an article on an environmental issue and how it affects your health.

Highlights from the forum included a discussion on how to buy green.  Some of the suggestions provided by the speakers were to look at the ingredients, look for an eco label and certification, and utilize resources on selecting green products.

Another interesting topic was the connection between climate change and our health.  Some of the effects of climate change are: death as a result of heat waves, pollution which affects the health of our lungs, extreme weather patterns which results in environmental refugees, infectious diseases, depletion of the ozone layer making humans susceptible to cancers such as skin cancer, and the increase in sea levels resulting in crop failure.

However, what caught my attention was survey that the David Suzuki foundation has launched, What's Inside? That Counts.  The survey requires Canadians to look at toxic chemicals in personal care products.  The results will then be compiled into a report and presented to the government.
